Heartbeat

Today was a normal appointment for me with the OB/GYN.  However, it turned out to be quite exciting.  I am at 10+ weeks and the heartbeat is usually consistently found somewhere around 12 weeks.  The lovely nurse at my doctor’s office was skilled enough to find the heartbeat today.  What an exciting sound.  I remember hearing that first heartbeat when Quin was still unknown to us.  It makes everything seem so real and so amazing.

Here’s a little info on fetal heart development.

The heart’s early development

The fetal heart undergoes a considerable amount of growth very early in pregnancy. The most critical period of its development is between three and seven weeks after fertilization, when a simple heart tube assumes the shape of a four-chambered heart. In fact, the heart actually begins beating by the 22nd day of life (or the fifth week of a 40-week pregnancy).

I only wish I could post the sound of that heartbeat, but trust me, it was beating fast and strong.

Psalm 139:13-16   For you formed my inward parts;  you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.  I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.  Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth.  Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.
